One of our most promising young athletes, Alex was an inspiration to Norway, and his influence far transcended sport. In times of darkness and light, his unbridled skill and success united us. His confidence and enthusiasm gave us hope. And Alexander wanted deeply to give that hope to as many people around the world as possible. That is how I came to know him, as a Right To Play Athlete Ambassador – a role which he fulfilled with dedication and passion.

We were all inspired by this young man – myself, his fellow athletes, the staff and volunteers of Right To Play, and all of the children around the world for whom he was an invaluable role model.

My thoughts are with the Oen family and his loved ones during this sad time. They have lost their son; swimming has lost one of its greats; sport has lost an icon; both Norway and the world have lost a hero.

My thanks go to Alexander for everything that he gave us in his short life. We will forever be inspired by the incredible legacy he leaves behind.
