Olympic gold medalist Aksel Lund Svindal became an Athlete Ambassador in 2008. In October 2011, the International Ski Federation hosted the FIS Hilton Charity Gala in Zurich where all proceeds went to our organization. Aksel agreed to be a part of an auction gift, with the top bidder winning a day of skiing with the Norwegian star, raising a quarter of the funds earned that evening.
In 2008, Aksel, along with fellow Athlete Ambassadors in the skiing world, marked the start of the European ski season in a joint campaign between Right To Play and FIS to raise awareness for our programs. Through short video clips, the campaign encouraged on-site spectators to donate money to our cause.
“If I spend one day of skiing with a group of people who also love to ski, that does not cost me much. Knowing that it will make a huge difference to the work Right To Play works for is much more important” Aksel said. “When Right To Play asked if I wanted to do it, I wanted to contribute with something, because I know the effort they put into their work is tremendous.”
