Rachel Mishenene is a member of Eabametoong First Nation and bloodborn to Mishkegogamang First Nation. She has 15 years experience in teaching K-12 classrooms and educators, developing curriculum, and designing professional learning opportunities and numerous educational resources focused on Indigenous education for educators in Ontario and Canada, including Going beyond a land acknowledgement and Cultural appropriation vs appreciation. In the areas of research, Rachel has focused on Indigenous student engagement, culturally reflective curriculum, and First Nations parent engagement. Her writing experience also includes co-editing Strength and Struggle: Perspectives of First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples in Canada (McGraw-Hill, 2011) and a resource for Indigenous adult learners called, The New Smoke Signals: Communicating in a Digital World (Ningwakwe-Learning Press, 2014). Rachel is also a recipient of Canada’s national Indspire's 2018 Guiding the Journey: Indigenous Educator Award.
