Dear children of the world,
You deserve to feel safe. To play with friends. To learn. To grow up to be whoever you want to be. You deserve a joyful and happy childhood.
But for too many of you, that's out of reach. Too many of you are surrounded by conflict and the fear it creates. Too many of you have been forced to leave your home, your friends, and all you’ve ever known behind. Too many of you are doing dangerous work when you should be learning, laughing, and playing.
I believe that every child should have the chance to play, no matter their circumstance. Because playing is so much more than just a pastime. Play helps children learn, it builds their curiosity and confidence, helps them overcome trauma, and opens doors so children can reach their full potential. Play helps children know and claim their rights today, and dream of a better future. Play changes everything.
I join Right To Play and thousands of parents, teachers, and supporters in standing for children's rights to be safe, to learn, and to play. I believe that:
Every child deserves a joyful childhood free from fear, violence, discrimination, and exploitation.
Every child deserves to learn in environments that are safe, inclusive, and playful, and where they can be active participants in their own learning and development.
Every child deserves to have skilled and supportive teachers and coaches who help them learn and develop.
Every child deserves to have a chance to play safely in their community.
Governments should invest in play-based learning so children can learn in safe, fun, and supportive environments.
Sincerely,
